Ladies Associate Members' Saturday Morning Group

An excellent speaker and a birthday celebration made the groups December meeting a special event. Jennie Storr entertained us by relating tales of past hilarious Christmas experiences. A quick wit and armed with every wife and mothers' attributes, Jennie steered us through the festive season.

The meeting was followed by a buffet lunch and a very 'Happy Birthday' as member Mary Selby celebrated her 95th birthday. Our photograph shows a delighted and surprised Mary cutting her cake. Our thanks to Mr. Robin Bailey and the Hall staff for preparing the buffet and their assistance with this event.

Speakers at our monthly meetings have been excellent. A talk by Paula Hammond on her work as a magistrate was very informative as she explained some of her experiences as Vice Chairman of the Nottinghamshire Magistrates.

'What the Papers Said in the 1960's', was the subject for the November speaker W. Bro. Alan Clayton. Alan's talk reminded us of forgotten events, royal weddings, the first Concorde flight, space travel and news headlines from local newspapers. An excellent talk and slide show.

Outings during 2006 have always been very popular as members, family and friends enjoy these well organized events. A popular seasonal outing was to Marsh Farm, Rugeley, for turkey dinner. Presents were distributed and pianist Marion Proudlock accompanied us as we sang carols. A Christmas event enjoyed by everyone.
A busy programme for 2007 is arranged with monthly speakers and several outings. Membership of the Ladies Group is open to ladies whose husbands / partners are members of the Masonic Club. Widows of former Club Members are also welcome.

Meetings are held at the Masonic Hall, Goldsmith Street, on the second Saturday of each month. Coffee is served at 10.00 a.m. and the meeting commences at 10.30 a.m. For further details contact Chairman, Aileen Wright - Tel: 0115 928 3891 or at ladies.saturdaygroup1@ntlworld.com
