April Charity of the Month - Hope House School
Hope House is a unique school which will transform the lives of children with Autistic Spectrum disorders through one-to-one tutoring in individual classrooms.
Hope House School has been inspired by the plight of one little boy - Hugh, and his determined granny - Terri Westmoreland. Hugh suffers from a rare autistic disorder and like many autistic children struggles to cope with the hurly-burly and distractions of the classroom environment. For many of these children, attending mainstream school a torment.
Through passionate fund-raising efforts and professional support we are now realising our desire to provide a unique school in Newark, Nottinghamshire, which will transform the lives of up to forty educationally fragile children. We aim to build their confidence and to help make sense of the world around them.
In addition to financial assistance, Hope House School would be greatful of both manpower and building materials as it continues to renovate the derelict site, having recently completed the conversion of the first of several buildings. They are holding a 'clean up weekend' on April 1th & 15th 2007 and would welcome all willing pairs of hands.
The school can be contacted through their web site at: http://www.hopehouseschool.co.uk/
