Whilst larger articles will be published, here are my impressions of the big day which I attended with other members of the Lodge (Thoresby 3106) their wives, friends and my wife Joan.

We - Joan and I - arrived at 12.30, to find the concourse heaving - and the sparking reception not so sparkling as it had all gone - but at least the bar(s) where open.

It was out first visit to the ice stadium and we watched the glittering ice display by many gifted and talented youngsters for 30 minutes - my only other thought was how small the venue was for what I thought was a major stadium. It was only when we got called to lunch that I realised that we had been in a side venue rather than the main arena.

The food was prompt and I thought well organised for such a large event. After this we saw the main processions, presentations and speeches. No doubt others will elaborate more and the autumn issue of the "Nottinghamshire Mason" will devote much space to this. However, for me the 3 highlights of this were: 1) The presentation by the Festival President PGM RWBro R K Wilson to the "New Samaritan Fund” of a cheque to the value of £3,797,392 2) The excellent singing by all parties concerned including all the guests and 3) The duo sang by Donna Bateman and the PGM. (Robbie Williams rates a poor 2nd)

Last but not forgetting the excellent preparatory work, by the organising committee especially W.Bro Mike Woodcock PAGDC which ensured the event went smoothly.

Well done, very enjoyable.
