On Thursday 21st. June 2007, the Masonic Hall at Goldsmith Street was plunged into darkness as a consequence of a power cable being inadvertently severed on the building reconstruction site across the road at Nottingham Trent University. Some thought to blame the power failure on the Summer Solstice but, in the end, it was a man-made phenomenon!
Undeterred, the Knights of Abbey Chapter Preceptory Letter A participated in a complete Installation ceremony by candle-light. And impressive it was too. It was just like stepping back in time and everyone realised how atmospheric our ceremonies must have been before the advent of electricity.
Likewise at the Festive Board, where the dining room was illuminated by daylight until, finally, power was restored at 8.30 p.m. Congratulations to the catering management and staff who, evoking that spirit which characterises the British in adversity, produced an excellent meal by reverting to gas-fired appliances!
