Elliott Lodge Garden Party Sunday 15th July 2007.
W Master Jon Boulton and his helpers spent many hours in preparation at his Rainworth home and over 100 were due to attend the garden party.
Lawns trimmed, gazebos in place, food prepared, several fridges full of ‘liquids’ but the weather was awful. Lawns were ‘sodden’, gazebos only ‘shower’ proof and the band couldn’t play.
Some emergency phone calls and Sally Cooke rescued us all. ‘Yes I will open the Masonic Hall and I will spend my day off helping you.’ Within two hours we had de-camped to Nottingham Road where we continued with a little ’imagination’ – only ‘croquet on the car park’ being cancelled.
Good band, good food, plenty of ‘liquid’ flowing, Richard Cantrill and George McLeod with their plant stand and Gus Evans on the Tombola.
A good day for charity with at least £1,250 in the pot.
Day ended next door in the Talbot with grateful organisers buying Sally a pint. Our deputy manager at Mansfield is simply wonderful – the keystone of our success.
