Nottinghamshire Masonic Ladies Associate Members - Sat Morning
Many excellent popular speakers invited to our Saturday meetings have been hilarious, some nostalgic, and some leave us in awe of their inner strengths against physical adversity. Two speakers who visited us earlier in the year explained how their commitment to help sick children in the Nottinghamshire Province has aided the child’s recovery. John Bassford and Chairman, Graham Riche of ‘Teddies for Loving Care’ tirelessly raise money to buy teddy bears for children in hospital. Instead of leaving what has become a much loved little friend, the young patients keep their teddies and take them home. Our photograph shows Chairman, Aileen Wright and Vice-Chairman, Gill Hitch with Graham Riche following the presentation of a cheque to T.L.C.
A photographic display accompanied by a fascinating talk on ‘Life Underground’ was given by our May speaker Steve Wright who related his early working life at a local colliery to finally becoming a Pit Manager. With maps showing the underground tunnels linking the collieries in Nottinghamshire Steve explained the life and workings of all those involved in colliery life. Followed by a lengthy questions and answers session members enjoyed this local and topical talk.
Bill Wheatley from the Attenborough Nature Reserve was the guest speaker at our June meeting. With excellent photographic slides of the flora and fauna at the centre we were taken through the changing seasons at the reserve.
A coach outing on 18th May was enjoyed by members, husbands and friends when we visited Trentham Gardens. The weather remained good as we walked around the shops, garden centre and the beautiful gardens. On leaving Trentham we travelled to Stoke- on-Trent and the Spode Pottery works where we enjoyed a further shopping spree in various china shops. An excellent buffet tea had been prepared for a weary and grateful group by the pottery staff. The end of a perfect day.
Membership of the Ladies Group is open to ladies whose husbands / partners are members of the Masonic Club.
Widows of former Club Members are also welcome.
Meetings are held at the Masonic Hall, Goldsmith Street, on the second Saturday of each month. Coffee is served at 10.00 am and the meeting commences at 10.30 am.
