Mansfield & District Branch Multiple Sclerosis Society Donation
On Tuesday evening August 14th, the magnificent sum of £1000.50 was presented to The Mansfield and District branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. This was made possible through the good offices of the Provincial Charity Committee and of course through the generosity of Nottinghamshire Freemasons.
The society has in three years, raised funds by which they were able to purchase two ambulances at a cost of some £40,000.00 in order that sufferers can be conveyed to meetings and recreational “days out”, the larger of the two vehicles required a lift by which invalid chairs and their owners could be hoisted into the Ambulance, and the this donation supplied the means by which the lift was purchased.
The Provincial Grand Master delegated the Provincial Senior Grand Warden, W Bro M.J. Page and the Provincial Grand Almoner W Bro J.G.D. Hastie to present the cheque to the Society, who joined with the society members at their monthly social meeting. Gordon Beastall, Chairman of the Branch introduced them to the gathering and requested a short resume of the charitable work of Freemasons. This was most ably accomplished in so far as W Bro Page explained how funds for worthy causes were raised by Masons and W Bro Hastie gave an account of how charity monies were distributed.
The two gentlemen were thanked and received deserved acclaim for the attendance and asked to relay appreciation from the Branch to the Nottinghamshire Freemasons.
