A report by Jean Dibb December 2007
The luncheon Club meets on the third Monday of each month except August. The members gather at 10.30am for coffee and a chat, and at alternate meetings a speaker entertains until lunch, for which the menu is varied, a hot and a cold option always being available.
Ann Lee gave an absolutely super talk in September, about cruising and the wonderful things she had seen on her annual trips. It reminded many of our members of their cruise liner holidays. As there was no talk of rough seas and bad weather, it almost made me wish that I had the desire to do the same!
In October, Marie Skinner came to talk about her memories of childhood and growing-up. It was a prelude to a story about a very special gift that had been given to Marie by someone who meant a great deal to her. A wonderful tale – everyone enjoyed and appreciated the telling of it. Constance Cooper also provided a very interesting story about a “charade” which was written 240 years ago and went through many distinguished hands before arriving at the home of Maurice and Constance Cooper. Its final resting place will be back where it started with the Devonshire family.
In November Katie came with a tableful of lovely jewellery which all seemed to enjoy. Several items were purchased, and she was most generous, giving three attractive items for our Christmas raffle.
We now look forward to our Christmas Luncheon. As usual there is a choice of delicious food, and Joan Pratt will provide some fine flower arrangements for us to admire, and, hopefully to win one in the raffle – to grace on lucky home over the festive season.
