Newton Lodge 1661, Burns' Night meeting

Newton Lodge No 1661 – A Meeting With A Difference.

On January 29th 2008, Newton Lodge meeting at Newark on Trent, staged a second degree lecture to approximately 50 Brethren including visitors from as far away as Peterborough in attendance. WBro John Lawrence delivered an impeccable recital of the tracing board to a captivated audience after which, having closed the lodge in due form, the Ladies of the Brethren present were invited into the meeting and were treated to an eloquent and informative tour of the temple, it’s furniture and officers by WBro Alan Coppin, followed by a brief question and answer session.

The evening continued downstairs at the Festive Board at which the Brethren and their Ladies (87 in total) enjoyed haggis and whisky in addition to the traditional Masonic fayre.

The haggis was piped in by one of the visiting brethren, namely W.Bro. Alisdair MacDonald, a past master from the Vale of Nene Lodge 7006, whilst the Ode to the Haggis was delivered masterfully by WBro Andrew Logan.

A raffle taken during the festive board raised just over £500 which will be forwarded to a Balderton woman intending to run the London Marathon later this year to raise funds for an Alzheimer’s charity to bolster her total.

The Worshipfull Master WBro Geoff Tindall thanked those in attendance for a wonderful evening, awarded flowers and congratulated WBro John Edis for all his hard work in arranging such a successful evening and WBro and Mrs John Clarke, who were winners of the evening’s general knowledge quiz.
