The Provincial Grand Master's annual cheese and wine event, held at Worksop College, proved to be a wonderful day, building on the success of previous years.
The day commenced with a Rose Croix service, delivered by Revd Canon Philip Humphreys in the very ornate Chapel in the college.
A wide and exotic range of cheese and wine was then served in the marquee, again too plentiful to exhaust. Once again Brethren worked hard in pursuit of various fundraising initiatives, the proceeds of which were given to the two nominated charities for the event which this year were McMillan Cancer Relief and Rainbows Childrens Hospice.
An auction was held with all prizes donated by Brethren of the province, ranging from two holidays for 6 people to a nesting box adorned with masonic symbols. The auction raised £2718. The money raised on the day will be complimented by funds from the Provincial Charity account and split between the two charities named above.
Before the close of the day, the Provincial Grand Master rose to praise the efforts of the organising team and to honour the memory of WBro Brian Granger who died earlier this year and had worked so hard in organising the event in years past and sent his thoughts to Brians wife, Diedre.
The Inspector General 33 deg, Mike Page, and the Past General Graham Aitkin 33 deg then rose to present a cheque for £1500, along with the £350 given in offertory, to the Deputy Head of the College who received it with thanks, saying that it would be used to provide a scholarship for a worthy child who would otherwise be unable to attend.
