NOTTINGHAMSHIRE MASONIC LADIES ASSOCIATE MEMBERS. Saturday Morning Group
By Carolyn Hobson
Members and guests attending our monthly meetings enjoy listening to speakers on a variety of topics which appeal to all ages. When Jim Sumner visited our ladies group he spoke on a theme familiar to everyone be they young or of slightly more mature years, “Old Age Comes at a Bad Time”. With stories of lost car keys - finding them in the freezer, looking for a pair of spectacles – they are on your head! Jim entertained us with many humorous anecdotes and we were pleased to discover others suffer the same memory loss as ourselves.
Alice-Anne Hutchinson the speaker at our June meeting is an enjoyable and informative authority on “The Decoupage Story” and has travelled extensively in her quest to discover how the different styles in decoupage art were developed. From their origins in Central America and Europe these designs remain popular today. Alice-Anne demonstrated the process involved in decoupage decoration and exhibited samples of her own work.
We were pleased when Judy Morrow accepted an invitation to speak to the group about her work as a ‘Care Advice Visitor’ for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institute. Judy’s excellent talk covered all aspects of the RMBI who have been caring for Freemasons and their dependents for many years. The seventeen care homes across England and Wales offer different types of care – Residential, Nursing, Dementia and Sheltered Accommodation. For those requiring assistance the RMBI give advice on the many services and benefits available. Judy’s role as Care Advise Visitor (Midlands) covers a wide range of duties and we are grateful for her time in visiting our group.
As we look back on the past months’ summer highlights we know the autumn programme will be equally enjoyable.
Membership of the group is open to Ladies whose husbands / partners are members of the Masonic Club. Widows of former club members are also welcome.
Meetings are held at the Masonic Hall, Goldsmith Street, on the second Saturday of each month. Coffee is served at 10.00 am and the meeting commences at 10.30 am.
