Ever eager to make their daily advancement in Masonic knowledge, Members of Maun Chapter (joined by carefully selected outsiders and Ladies), led by the WMS E&PP John Wood, attended a demonstration of the 9th & 10th degrees in the Masonic Temple, St Helier, on 20th September 2008.

Given by the King Edward VII Chapter of Improvement, and attended by distinguished members of the Supreme Council including MPB G.L. Tedder, Sovereign Grand Commander, & V.Ill Bros M.J. Page (IG) and G. Aitken, some 80 brethren witnessed the drama of the searching out and capture of the three villains responsible for the death of our master, HA.

At the Festive Board we dined with the KE VII team. Founded in 1904 this was their 1435th demonstration! Four or five such meetings are held each year, with the degrees worked progressing over a 9 year cycle. Maun, like every Chapter, is asked to subscribe £5 pa to cover their expenses – a remarkable bargain considering the professionalism of their presentation.

Before this climax to our weekend the party were able to enjoy the delights of the Island! On the Thursday evening most were present at a supper arranged by Bro Graham Aitken at St Aubins Bay, while on Friday we all feasted on a ‘Seafood Spectacular’ at ‘The Pomme D’Or’, our hotel.

Daytime being ‘at leisure’ some explored the many attractions of Jersey, such as the Occupation Museums and Hospital, the Pottery, the excellent Zoo, or one of several gardens open to visitors. Others took advantage of the brilliant sunshine all weekend to sample the bars, cafes and wines, while several ladies seemed content simply to burn plastic in the world class shops behind our hotel.

In his first – and almost certainly last – venture as a Travel Agent, the trip was organised(?) by Ill.Bro John Taylor, Chapter Recorder.
