On Thursday 27th March, 2008, Asst. Pr.GM Richard Davies, accompanied by W.Bros. Ted Hill, Maurice Lacey, David Earley and Stan Harding, attended the Firs Nursing Home at Sherwood to present W.Bro. Tom Coulter with a Provincial Illuminated Address to mark his 60 years in Freemasonry, and Annesley Lodge in particular.
It had been planned to have a special ceremony at the Lodge Regular meeting, however, as Tom was unable to stand for longer than a minute we had to use plan 'B'.
A copy of the Lodge minutes dated 22nd March, 1948 was also presented together with a synopsis of Tom's Masonic career and the Matron provided the sherry with which to drink his health. Following a photography session (the photographer is understandably in hiding),some reminiscenses, which he appeared to enjoy, we said goodnight.
It is perhaps worth mentioning that Tom was a founder of the Abbeyfield Society in Nottingham and devoted a great deal of his time to ensuring that it was successful. The Firs is one of its homes and, from what we saw, is well run with the residents being well looked after.
