It was a beautiful day in North Nottinghamshire that saw almost 400 Nottinghamshire Freemasons once again converge on the tranquil setting that is Worksop College for their annual Cheese and Wine event, hosted by RWBro Robin Wilson, PGM.

The day began with the annual Rose Croix church service in Worksop College Chapel after which the sumptuous buffet comprising of various cheeses, breads and fruits was opened. During the meal the Headmaster of Worksop College, Mr R A Collard MA, introduced to the attendees the student who had been the beneficiary of the Freemasons annual donation for the past number of years, who they had just witnessed Captain the College Cricket Team to victory in the final of the Yorkshire regional 20-20 match. Mr Collard went on to say that this year’s money would go towards funding the next scholarship for which a new candidate had already been selected.

The nominated charities to benefit from the Provincial Fund this year are Skillforce and Notts Lincs Air Ambulance, whose helicopter landed on the south field during the afternoon much to the interest of those present. RWBro Wilson was joined by the Provincial Grand Master for Lincolnshire, RWBro Graham Ives, and each presented the air ambulance with a cheque for £4000. The PGM went on to advise that it was the intention of the Grand Charity to award £180,000 to the air ambulance of each county during 2009.

The event concluded with an auction of items ranging from hanging baskets to holidays, and the PGM expressed his thanks to the tireless efforts of the organisers and helpers, particularly WBro and Mrs Malcolm Beecroft.
