On 24th June 2009, His Excellency Dr Kenneth David Kaunda - the first and former President of Zambia was in Nottinghamshire to endorse the work of the Nottinghamshire Police Aid Convoys - the vigorous local charity populated by many local Masons.

At lunch at Kelham Hall he met with the Master of Edwalton Lodge 8214, W. Bro Peter Barratt and other local dignitaries.

He went on to open a new enterprise that the charity will be running with the Newark Magnus School to provide wheelchairs and cycles for Africa. The first wheelchair was presented by Bro Adrian Crampton.

It costs £7,000 to send a full 3,200 cubic foot container to Zambia and it would be nice to send one with our name on it! You can rest assured that current President Banda will guarantee that it is gratefully received and faithfully applied...

Lodges in Zambia are poor and would benefit from surplus regalia and ornaments. Visits are easily arranged through W. Bro Barratt - if ambitious!
