Part of Forest Lodge’s charitable donations this year went to T.S. Prince Charles 233. This is the Mansfield Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Detachment based on Quarry Lane in Mansfield. A donation of £650 was made to the unit to enable them to purchase an Open Canoe (Canadian Style) for use by its members. The Commanding Officer, Lt (SCC) Jackie Gill RNR reported that “When the British Canoe Union changed the rules regarding competitive canoeing, this Sea Cadet unit, although District winners, were unable to compete in the national competitions.” “This is where W. Bro. George Thompson was able to assist. George, an ex sea Captain has been involved with the Sea Cadets for many years and he is also a member of Forest Lodge.” “This donation has allowed us to provide a suitable canoe which will hopefully take us further than future District competitions.” The canoe is aptly named “Forest Lodge” and can be found, in use, on Kings Mill reservoir. The Sea Cadet unit at Mansfield is 50 strong and meet on a Tuesday & Thursday night.
