In November 2009, the Nottinghamshire Masonic Music Association has again been entertaining brethren and friends, on this occasion with an ‘Old Time Music Hall’, in the Mansfield Masonic Hall. The ‘home grown’ talent, which included the PGM, one of his Assistants and eleven other brethren was ably supported by five students from school and college who added their particular expertise with Edward and Alex Turner as pianists; Alex Weston as violinist; Jack Stone as cellist and Emily Clark a singer together with three female vocalists; Mrs Barbara Harwood, Mrs Marian Shread and Mrs Barbara Parris.
The programme included monologues as diverse as Piddling Pete and The hole in the Ark and music ranging from Mozart (Don Giovanni) to Flanders and Swann (I’m a Gnu). W Bro Richard Cumberland kept ‘order’ as the Chairman and W Bro Richard Howarth kept the whole thing ‘in tune’ as Musical Director. When the audience, of just over a hundred, many of whom were appropriately dressed for the occasion, were well fed they responded wonderfully by joining enthusiastically in a series of ‘sing-a-longs’ culminating in “We’ll meet again”. The evening was well received and even had a mention on Radio Nottingham. Our supporters do hope to “Meet again” at our next offering which will be a Lunch Time ‘Big Band Concert’ in the spring.
