Sunday, May 10th, thirty-one Edwinstowe brethren, wife's family and friends accompanied Worshipful Master Mick Tomsett and his lady Gill on a very informative day out.
In the morning the party visited the National Media Museum at Bradford where they enjoyed investigating the origins and development of photography, film, television, radio and the web. Many of the exhibits brought back many a nostalgic memory. There were several interactive activities including television news reading, presenting the weather forecast, participating in a Coronation Street screen and actually being cameramen shooting an actor in a television production. These events were anticipated in with great enthusiasm.
In the afternoon the group proceeded to The World Heritage Site village of Saltire. The village having been built by the entrepreneur Titus Salt between 1851 and 1876 and consisted of the Salt Mills, neat stone workers cottages, almshouses for the poor, a school, a hospital, shops, a church, an institute and a park, but no public house Titus Salt been a devout Methodist. The village still stands and most of the buildings have survived even if their function is now different. The centrepiece of the village of the Salt Mills which has many galleries, shops, restaurants including an exhibition of modern art by the world renowned artist and designer David Hockney. Even though the weather had turned rainy everyone enjoyed exploring the village.
Departing in the late afternoon the day was concluded by visit to the Mermaid Fish Restaurant at Morley where a fish and chip supper was taken.
