50 Year Certificate - W Bro Ken Lygo
# By W Bro David Left on 5th February, 2010
On Thursday 28th January 2010 W Bro Ken Lygo celebrated his 50 years in Freemasonry and 50 years in St. Giles Lodge. To mark the occasion W Bro R.V.Gutteridge (Assistant Provincial Grand Master) outlined Ken’s achievements and presented him with his 50 year Certificate.
Ken was born on 8th October 1927, which makes him eighty two years young. He joined the Royal Navy towards the end of the Second World War and after being demobbed worked for several years on his grandparent’s farm. He then began a career in insurance, working as a Pensions Inspector for Legal and General.
Ken has been married to Lois for sixty years and they have one son and two grandchildren, one of whom is serving as an Army Captain in Afghanistan. Ken and Lois have shared a love of caravaning for some 50 years.
Ken was initiated into St. Giles Lodge when he was 32 years old by his father W Bro Arthur Lygo. It took 11 years for Ken to progress to the Chair of the Lodge in 1971; this meant that he was Worshipful Master when the Lodge celebrated its 50th anniversary.
He also contributed in many ways to the life of St. Giles Lodge, being Lodge Festival Steward for the 1977 Festival, as well as periods as its Secretary and Almoner. He was also part of the Lodge team that gave presentations to other Lodges within and outside the Province.
He is still active within the Lodge regularly taking part in the Installation ceremonies and Past Master’s evenings.
Ken was exalted into St. Giles Chapter in 1971 and progressed to the Chair of Zerrubabel in 1988. He is also an active member of Rose Croix and the Secret Monitor.
Ken was first recognized by Provincial Grand Lodge in 1978 when he was appointed as Provincial Deputy Grand Sword Bearer and he was last promoted in 1993 to the rank of Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden. He is also an officer of Provincial Grand Chapter with the rank of Past Provincial Grand Registrar.
The photograph shows W Bro Richard Gutteridge presenting Ken with his 50 year Certificate on this very happy occasion which was rounded off with a Burns Night Festive Board.
