In an attempt to hit the ground running with raising money for the 2018 Festival Appeal,The Round Table Lodge of Nottinghamshire 8604 held its 1st Annual Summer Bar B Q.

On a glorious Sunday afternoon, at the home of Bro Pete Gill and his wife Mary, at Redhill, Nottingham, over 40 Lodge Members and their partners, friends & family enjoyed a most enjoyable afternoon.

The organiser Bro Lee Freeley and his wife Kate, had organised a variety of activities for the guests.

We started off with a picture quiz, and all the guests were divided up into teams, with some of the pictures dating back to Fatty Arbuckle there was a definate advatage if you were in your 60’s, with the average age of RTL being well below that, and with the eventual winners who called themselves the Robins questiones were asked if they had any help from a ‘friend’.

W Bro Gill had, generously organised a Tombala, with the main prize being a gold sequinned G String, which was won by Bro John Shaw.

He asked if he could wear it at his forthcoming raising ceremony, to which our Grand Liaison Officer W Bro Eric Saxton replied that nothing would surprise him with Round Table Lodge but in this instance it is a definite no!!

A Mr & Mrs Competition was also organised by Bro Lee Freeley and he managed to get the Secretary W Bro Ian Raynor and his wife Lynn and from Musters Lodge W Bro David Evanson & his wife Gill to ‘volunteer’ to answer some impossible questions. Bearing in mind both couples have married for over 30 years, neither of the Brethren came out with our distinguishing merits, although the eventual winner after numerous recounts, was declared as W Bro David & Gill Evanson.

As the afternoon drew to a close our WM W Bro Tony Smith thanked Betty Saxton & Gillian Hine together with W Bro Tim Scott from Clifton Lodge for providing some excellent puddings.

Overall we raised over £300.00 which will be the Lodge’s 1st payment to the 2018 appeal.
